Deborah Topp came to talk about watersheds and how pollution
can enter into bodies of water. Some of
the pollutants are gas, litter, oil, bug spray, scat, chemicals, raw sewage and
fertilizers. She showed us a model of how pollution can get into the rivers and
streams. This will also lead to the
ocean. She also talked to us about the
water treatment plant and storm drains.
The treatment plant takes care of dirty water and make it clean. Storm drains let all water go into our
watershed.
To help with this problem we should clean up after pets, ride your bike more, plant trees and pick up litter. Add silt nets by the streams and rivers to hold the dirt in place and let the water flow. It is important to keep our watershed clean because we use this water and we can’t live without it.
